BTS Has Now Won More Melon Music Awards Than Any Other Act In History

2019 Billboard Music Awards - Show

BTS completely dominated the Melon Music Awards this year, which was expected by many who have been following the industry and the group’s success over the past year, but the fact that they took home as many prizes as they did is still noteworthy. With a handful of new pieces of hardware to their credit, the band has now pulled ahead of everyone else and made history.

The K-pop septet has now taken home 23 Melon Music Awards throughout their career, which stands as the greatest accumulation of honors any one act has managed in the history of the ceremony. In fact, BTS just became the first name to pass 20 wins, and they speed past the group that was leading the way until this latest iteration.

Before this year, Exo was in first place on the list of the musicians with the most Melon Music Award wins, with 16. That band claimed another honor (they were named as one of the top 10 musicians, all of whom get a prize), advancing to 17 total trophies, which helps them stay in second place. In 2018, BTS was very close behind Exo with 15 wins, but that’s obviously no longer the case.

BTS won the following Melon Music Awards this year: Artist of the Year, Album of the Year (Map of the Soul: Persona), Record of the Year (for the same title), Song of the Year (“Boy with Luv”), Best Male Dance (for the same title), the Netizen Popularity Award (the same title again), the Kakao Hot Star Award, and they were also named as one of the top 10 artists, which gives them yet another honor.

The Melon Music Awards are not the only major annual music award ceremony in South Korea, but they are known as one of the biggest and one of the most prestigious.
